Love From Athens...

Gallipoli Peninsula
Turkey

28 April 1915

Dear Mum, Dad and Brother

We have arrived here at Gallipoli by a really gigantic ship and it’s really nerve-racking here. Everywhere I look all I see around me is blood, guns, dead bodies it’s just really filthy and stomach-turning. We sleep on these large sacks. I don’t really know what’s inside those sacks. Then on top we use sheets to cover our bodies. We eat the same thing everyday but sometimes people are fortunate to get some fruit cakes, ANZAC biscuits or canned food.
I am enjoying the biscuits and letters you sent from home they are very pleasant and sweet also very supportive.

Send my love to Mum, Dad and Brother
I miss you all very terribly sometimes it’s a cheerless day...
